From the artist:
‘From the outset I asked myself what does the act of caring mean to me. I knew that I wanted to express this from a celebratory perspective: an act of healing, connecting, uplift and empathy. Sometimes words are not needed and can be inadequate. However, caring as a physical act, beyond gesture, extending oneself for the benefit of another. This is an act of kindness and compassion, expressed as part of a nurturing nature dynamic. This led my thinking to be surmised at this point as ‘caring means being there’. There are many universal symbols which are familiar and ubiquitous. I wanted to play with these in a bold and semi abstract way through drawing and collage, combining forms of flowers, hearts and hands.’
